The Island Figurines

  • The figures were created inthe late 1960’s by Marjorie MacLennan. She hand-modelled clay figures to capture the heritage of the life of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland that was gradually dying out.
  • The figures are now individually hand cast and painted in the original colours.
  • The figures are cast in a number of pieces, up to 10, and are hand joined using slip clay. The modelling detail is then put into the piece and it is painted. It is then bisque fired. The face and hands are painted and the glaze applied. The figures are then fire for the second time.
  • We have deliberately kept the original simple appearance Marjorie created.
