Pottery Taster Session

Come and unleash your creativity ! Never experienced pottery before but want to have a go at hand building? This session covers the rudimentary skills required to hand build items from clay. Techniques such as pinching, slabbing and coiling will be covered to give you a good understanding of the way that items are made. You will produce a minimum of three functional pots over the 2.5hrs. Projects will be left for firing, once dried, to be collected, or posted, at a later date. Postage will incur a small charge.
Short Notice & Drop In
Ideal for visitors, both long and short stay.
Activities are available in either fused glass or pottery with as little as 2 hours notice. Obviously we prefer as much notice as possible, but rainy days and delayed ferries happen.

Block of 4 Pottery Classes
4 x 2 hrs

Blocks of classes taken during our regular, 2hr, weekly classes. The classes are project based and you will learn by doing, designing your own pieces. These will incorporate advanced techniques that take several sessions and firings to produce. Currently, classes run on Sat & Sun at 1 till 3pm and Wed 7 till 9pm. Other days and times will be added as required
Wheel Taster Session

Max 2 participants. Ever wondered if you could throw on a potters wheel and wanted to give it a go? This session gives you a chance to have a go and see if you can produce a small bowl. be prepared to get messy.

Introduction To Wheel Throwing

You will start by learning to prepare the clay and then centering in the wheel. Once this has been achieved you will learn how to open and pull bowls and cylinders. Finally, once the items have dried, you will learn how to trim and prepare for firing. Projects will be left for firing, to be collected, or posted, at a later date. Handbuilding Half Day (Beginner)

This class is ideal for total beginners, as well as those who may have done a class before. We will explore several techniques which lend themselves to being completed in one session. You will make three or four items, depending on time, which will be left in the studio for firing, to be collected, or posted, at a later date. Posting will incur a small charge.
Handbuilding Day (Beginner/Improver)
10am - 4pm

This class is ideal for total beginners, as well as those who may have done an occasional class before. We will initially explore several handbuilding techniques, producing an item with each technique, and then incorporating them into one of a choice of larger projects, all of which can be completed in the one session. You will make four or five items,in total, dependant on time.These will be left in the studio for drying and bisque firing, to be collected, or posted, at a later date. Posting will incur a small charge.
Introduction to Mould Making &
Slip Casting
10am - 4pm

Learn the basics for one-part and two-part plaster mold making and the process for slip casting ceramics. These mold-making techniques are also applicable to other poured materials. Pour and cast your own example of a slip cast ceramic piece.
